Ascent Trip ReportTwo weeks after her successful attempt on Mt. St. Helens, my wife was raring to go on Hood. She struggled through the dark hours, but when the sun came up her spirits perked up and from then on she was blessed with an iron will. Unfortunately elevation sickness symptoms hounded her, but she joyously summited. This event effectively ended her climbing career. During the ascent above the hogsback a lone climber appeared on the west side of Crater Rock and started hollering for help. One of his party had been hit by a big boulder coming down off Crater Rock and was seriously injured. Kelly Bock, one of our party members, had a cell phone and dialed 911 to get the rescue started. We watched from the summit as the rescue progressed.
