Ascent Trip ReportA self-supported hike after spending 2 months working in a hospital in Kaimosi, Western Kenya.
Turned up at the Naro Moru River Lodge in a rush because I was hoping to meet up with some medical student friends of friends from Manchester who I knew were attempting the mountain at that time. Enormously unprepared and had to make do with buying a load of snacks rather than proper food to sustain me for the 3 day hike and without much in the way of warm clothing; oh the incompetence of youth! Stayed at the Met Station and Mackinder's Camp en route. A beautiful trek transitioning through different ecological zones with fascinating flora and fauna, wide-ranging views over the plains and stunning close-ups of the rocky true summits of Mount Kenya; although the vertical bog nearly finished me off!
