Ascent Trip ReportAn easy out abd back hike on the Fryingpan trail, over Big Bald on the way to Fryingpan Mountain.
The TH for the Fryingpan Trail is at the entrance (just to the left,west) of the Pisgah Campground, BRP MILE 408.8 (abt 25 mile N of Ashville), elev 4850'.
The yellow blazed trail climbs westerly to the wooded summit of Big Bald Mountain (the high point is to the left of the trail) with no views, descends to Fryingpan Gap (elev 4940') where a gravel service road ascends to the Fryingpan Mountain Summit ..... with a firetower and a radio tower, the actual high point is just beyond the firetower which offers outstanding views.
4 mile, 1 1/2 hour RT.
