Ascent Trip ReportCouldn't find shaffer trail, they are doing construction and removed the markers, ended up doing a mix of bushwacks and following roads and skilift clearings to summit. Very easy navigation wise, impossible to get lost up there its so developed. Was still interesting and challenging hike, yet not quite blood pumping. Beautiful views from summit, nice waterfall at roaring brook, ate lunch at reservoir. Firetower was unclimbable and locked. Although there are a million 'no hiking' signs, I said hi to a security patrol on an atv at the summit and he didnt have a care in the world that I was hiking and was very friendly. At the summit I saw a working gondola taking people up for views, made my sore legs jealous!
This was the last of the 'ADK firetower challenge'. I did all the towers in Freeman's book, all were still standing as of 9/20/09. The hardest for me was Mt Adams, second hardest I thought hadley was tough for some reason. Most scenic for me was Hurricane. Most pleasant and most likely I would return too would probally be goodnow. Good times, on to the 46!!!
