Ascent Trip Report

Summitted the 2nd highest point in the Sierra Nevada range as part of my 3-day trek, crossing the whole range. This is a spectacular area.
I stayed in a comfy mountain hut the night before heading up Veleta and camped out in the open following the descent. Encountered some ibex, long-horned mountain sheep native to this area. The character of the trip changed several times, from an off-trail scramble to a dirt track, to a well worn path off the summit, and a very busy trail down through what is a big ski area (on the north side of Veleta). I also went from seeing almost no hikers to seeing all the day trippers on the north slopes. Interesting contrast.
