Ascent Trip Report

Not a bad hike with a very low volume of people considering how close it is to Seattle. I misjudged the snow conditions and did not bring snowshoes. An outing the previous week was above the snow line, and cold temps produced hard consolidated snow. The snow line here was encountered right around 2600'. Even though it was below freezing the night before, it was not enough to prevent post-holing. For several stretches, I was over my ankles in snow. I did discover the ridge holds much less snow than the logging roads north of it. In many places, the ridge was completely snow free. Overall, the hike was slog, but I was rewarded with some beautiful views of Rainier.
