Ascent Trip Report

Woodstock Land Conservancy's Snake Rocks Preserve is reached from a small off-site parking area with a 20' right-of-way to a well-maintained loop trail that goes thru a 19th century bluestone quarry and quarry pond with scenic vistas; the kiosk at the start of the loop describes the sanctuary in verse --

Snake Rocks

slip away ...
imagine a Chinese hermitage
fallen into ruin
just like quarry stones
save for the goldfish
who rises from the still dark deep
to greet you with stupid innocence
which is the essence
of slapping outside of time.

this day will never come again
only you will know the difference.
