Ascent Trip Report

A beautiful sunny day out, exchanged highs with hunter exiting to the new trailhead parking lot, both of us in orange; I hiked the adjacent jeep road to a Y-Jct (both ways blocked) chose to go right which became a newly cleared away tote road / trail but ending, from here whacked up to find an old tote road slabbing upward southwest and when it takes to descending whacked up to the nearby ridge with its well (cairn) marked path (thanks to Trevor K & Dad for this, added my two cents along the way) going on to summit plateau, finding Benchmark and southeast slope's awesome vista; I chose to follow the ridge path back so regaining the Y-Jct, a fun walk with some up high views of the Ashokan Reservoir thru much of the hike, with no one about but hunter exiting earlier and some distant gunshots, otherwise met flock of wild turkey in Peck Road on my drive back to Woodstock.
