Ascent Trip Report

Promenade Park and the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park are easily joined with a pedestrian bridge crossing busy railroad tracks at Ferry Street to connect expansive views of South Bay, Mt Merino and the Catskill Mtns, which have been the subject of Hudson River School landscape paintings (i.e., Sanford Robinson Gifford’s South Bay, on the Hudson, near Hudson, New York. Oil on canvas, 1864); in my attempt to reach Mt Merino, I got to within a couple hundred yards along paved Frese Rd but cut off by private road & cul-de-sac properties, tho across the river at Cohotate Preserve, I learned from a couple of local boatmen returning to Hudson that locals always ascended Mt Merino by the powerline right-of-way but that yes the well-to-do are now in residence right up to the hilltops, still maybe another time.
