Ascent Trip Report

A great hike, especially since the views on top are top-notch (this is Maine after all). The climb involves hiking mostly over rock faces, which can be slick if it's raining, I recommend hiking it in dry-ish weather unless you have good footwear. Going over the Horn and Saddleback Jr. was actually tougher-- the trail here is more rugged. And just so you know-- if you're planning on staying at the Popular Ridge Lean-to just north of Saddleback Jr., be aware that it's a "baseball bat" style shelter, which basically means you won't get any sleep. Huff it to Spaulding Mountain another 8 or 9 miles north if you can.
