Ascent Trip Report

As the info I found online indicated that the Lincoln Gap road is closed from October to May I chose to do the alternate Battell route. From talking with other hikers we encountered who hiked out of Lincoln Gap the road was still open.

For those using their phones to navigate I used 613 Quaker St. Lincoln, VT. This puts you at the intersection of Quaker St. and Elder Hill Rd. The TH is more or less at the end of Elder Hill Rd. There are signs from this intersection which do an OK job of getting you to the TH. The TH is located at N44 06.768 W72 57.817. There was parking for a few cars at the TH, the sedan I was in had no trouble on the dirt roads to the TH.

From the TH the trail climbs steadily for around 2 miles to an intersection with the LT about 0.1 miles short of the Battell shelter. From there the route joins the traditional route to the summit. There are a few classic New England slabs to scramble up near the top.
