Ascent Trip Report

On a perfect day with a good forecast we went to the tourist office to see if the ONE place we had reserved on the early bus had by any good fortune become TWO. We were in luck there was a cancellation. If you plan to use the bus it is worth getting your reservation in early! We planned to return from the ascent on last of the afternoon buses which run till about the end of September. There is a commentary, in Spanish, giving details about the National Park. This was to be the first serious mountain walk since breaking ankle last October so we allowed the maximum amount of time.
The ascent went well until a cool breeze got up when we were just below Mulhacen 11. We were prepared for the temperature to be well that of valley( ie 6 degrees) but we did marvel at the people in shorts who carried very little....still they were all moving faster than us.
The top was very busy, mostly with Spanish walkers. We recorded our success with photos for posterity and toasted the surgeon and all who had helped me get back to mountain walking again.
The descent was uneventful apart from sighting chamois. They seem completely unconcerned by our presence on the well marked trail. We got back to Alto del Chorrillo with half an hour to spare before the bus picked us up for the return to Capileira.
