Ascent Trip Report

Got a late start as this was my second climb back to back. My brother and niece arrived the night before to join me for part of the hike. We started at 0720, I broke off from the group at the head wall at approx 1130, and reached the summit at 1345. I believe I passed the tree covered hill that may have been an easier route, instead I climbed northeasterly toward the main head wall, then turned northwest up the draw to the saddle which was a very steep scree covered ascend. It was still very passable. I tried following the directions Tom Lopez gave in his book, but must have gotten confused, because once on the saddle I had already gone "over" the ridge he described without knowing it and was attempting to go "over" the ridge he advises to go around on the north side. It was a tad sketchy, but it made it fun, I looked down to my left and clearly could see the trail that went on the north side of this crumbling pillar that I shouldn't have been climbing over. I then descended down to the main trail and continued onward and upward. I found that there were several variations to choose from once you got around these three pillars. I took the routes with the most solid rock. I first reached the summit to the east of the actual summit, which had a different perspective of the scenery and was worth it, then followed the ridge a little ways to the main summit. The main summit has a perfect clear view of Borah Peak, and was quite majestic. I spent an hour on the summit relaxing before making my descent. I was also trying to radio a friend that happened to be climbing Borah on the same day, but it turns out they would not transmit. It only took about an hour and 15 min to reach the base of the mountain where I left my brother and niece. They had already made it back to their car by the time I got back to the saddle between Idaho and Point 11,060. At this point I had to remove the rocks out of my shoes from the very quick and exciting glissade down the drainage, then continued down arriving back at the trailhead at 1745.
