Ascent Trip Report

We climbed Silvertip from a camp in Silvertip Creek which turned out to be the last available water on the route (mid August). From camp we used the trail to the pass SW of Ibex Mountain to avoid bushwhacking, passed point 7,938 on the east, and gained access to the south trending portion of the long ridge which eventually becomes the ENE ridge of Silvertip. The GPS route is our descent for which we cut across the basin NW of point 8,372 to avoid traversing beneath point 8,372 on a reasonable goat trail - either route works. With wandering, route finding, and scenic detours we had a 15 mile, 4,900' total vertical gain day with a little bit of 3rd class high on the final ridge. Great vantage point, the next highest peak is 8 miles away.
