Ascent Trip Report

Sugarloaf from the Caribou Valley Road. Moderate ascent with some decent ridge running. On the whole, not a significant climb compared to the other standard routes.

Total of 4 or so hours, 6.2mi +/- total. Maps call out 2.8 from the road to the summit, but keep in mind that the CVR is still blocked off about 4miles in, before the AT crossing, and it's about a quarter mile west from the blocked gate to the trailhead. If you have a bike, you can bike that section should you wish (and yes, it is the same trailhead for the crockers/redington).

Please please please keep in mind that the AT is marked by WHITE blazes, and that the yellow blazes you may cross while on this road are the AT boundary markers. The yellow blazes are offset from the AT by about 250' to 500', and exist so that private landowners (ski resort and loggers) don't cut trees to close to the trail. There will be a bunch of geological survey markers (look like summit markers) with the AT symbol on them, but hey, this is the boundary and not the actual trail. People get lost every year doing this. Don't be one of those people.
