Ascent Trip Report

A long set of stairs, up, up, up, to find folks casually strolling about the summit plateau, sounds from a piano drifting by. A statue of Harvey Scott, Oregonian Newspaper Editorialist, pointing away from the highest point nestled between the trunks of a thick old tree. A canopy of pine needles leaking just enough sunlight for a pleasant walkabout, but melancholy tones drew me to replace the pianist and fill the warm air with an ambience of my own choosing. Back came the pianist, not to listen, but to pick up his abandoned sunglasses, and coerced to snap a photo -- to remember yet another appreciable stop in too short a life interspersed with so many obligations that can't be carelessly abandoned.
