Ascent Trip Report

Approach access was fine from Ely, with campground under construction. However, a ranger at FS office in Ely helpfully told us to just take a campsite not currently under repair. When we arrived, the construction people directed us to campsites available. The campsites are nicely placed on the creek. We drove the last mile above campground to TH and road is fine for 2 wheel vehicles. The route up crosses the creek, gets lost in the wet vegetation, and continues up the left fork with a nice accent to the head of the broad and open creek gully. From there its just dead recon to the summit ridge. The aspens were nice and there was room to roam. Wheeler peak can be easily seen to the SSE. Returned to a hot valley but it was cool down in the shade. total distance 6 mile rd trip; 7 hours round trip.
