Ascent Trip Report

I entered Badlands NP via its N entrance (AKA the Pinnacles entrance) on SD-240, which is 7½ miles S of Wall. 0.8 miles later is Pinnacles Overlook, which is a large tourist parking area on the R. I parked here. The summit is a grass-covered hill, plainly visible a short distance SE.

I hiked S along the highway until it reaches the NW ridge of the 3240+ area that lies S of Point 3255. I climbed to the 3240+ area, then hiked N to Point 3255 and located the BM. It is difficult to tell by eye which is higher, but a level would probably tell.

I returned to the Pinnacles Overlook parking area by dipping across the ravine between Point 3255 and the highway.
