Ascent Trip ReportI climbed Ben Nevis alone in the summer of 1980 while traveling through Scotland. It was not planned but I was traveling by and decided to climb it. The weather was cool but not raining. An easy climb up from Fort William. I camped in a backyard in Fort William. There were 2 old Scottish ladies who rented camping spots in their garden. I met 3 German-Swiss girls there, one of them panicked when she thought she lost her passport. She went to talk to the old Scottish lady in her German_Swiss accent. The Scots lady had a very pronounce brogue. I had to go and translate for them, speaking in English the entire time, just because they could not understand each others accent. The next day when I had climbed Ben Nevis the Swiss girls and I went to a local pub. I had a fabulous time, surrounded by 3 wonderful Swiss girls all night. The weather was typical cloudy weather for Ben Nevis. It was a Saturday and there was a running race up the mountain and several runners went by me. Fortunately the trail was marked well and it was not hard to follow.
