Ascent Trip Report

Attempted the SE ridge in a day. Left the TH at 5AM, made good time to Peggys pond. Patchy snow starts just after Squaw lake. There were two tracks from Peggys pond - one up the SE ridge and one up the Hyas creek basin. We took the one up the ridge. We over shot the point at which we had to drop down to the snow field to traverse to the saddle near East peak. Note that existing tracks stop a little higher as well where the slope conditions are best described as sketchy. We got back down to the point where our gps track showed that we had to drop down to the snowfield but we found no safe way. The slope looked steep and loaded with fresh snow with no reasonable run out. It was already 12:00PM at this point and snow was becoming softer every minute. We made the call to come back another day. So currently it looks like the only way up from Peggys pond is via the Basin and up the Hyas creek head wall.
