Ascent Trip Report

A road and bushwhack westbound ... 1.5 miles, 55 minutes RT.

This is our 82nd day, and the last hiking day in Kentucky, of our "Texas Winter Trip 2016" .... will be home in 3 days.

We once again followed pioneer Ken Oesers's TR .... normally I don't like to add a TR unless ground conditions merit one. In this case I need to add/update information. One must read Ken.
I used Ken's route to the summit and found it full of dense thorny brush with some blowdown (not good). As I neared the top I came upon a path of sorts which I used for my descent. This much better route is the one I recommend/describe here.

Ken's writes "......... road deteriorates to dirt/gravel and narrows after a right bend at about mile 20. ...... " . The right bend is over the Hardy Fork culvert with a house straight ahead (south) and it was not passable with our dodge caravan so we had to park at this right bend (38.40835,-83.47343).

I walked the rutted dirt road 1/2 mile west (past-by an old barn on-route) and started my bushwhack ... I added orange tape to a large tree on the left (38.40989,-83.48129), the summit is seen to the southwest at less than 1/4 mile. The road continues and starts to climb at about 200 yards.

I jumped over the Hardy Fork, walked 50 yards across a grass field and climbed the moderately steep ridge southwest to the top. Mostly open woods with little underbrush and a path of sorts off-and-on. I also couldn't find the BM.
