Ascent Trip Report

As far as I can determine, Hare Mountain is tied with Garrett Mountain and Reeves Mountain for the 10th highest named highpoint in Arkansas with all three summits at an elevation of 2440+feet. Since the elevation for each of these highpoints is not specific, their individual heights could probably be determined with more investigation, but I believe they are the 10th, 11th and 12th highest named points in Arkansas. My son, Marshall, and I were able to drive to within .53 air miles from the summit, but it required 42 minutes to reach the top, although we were briefly delayed when we reached many 30-36 inch high randomly scattered rock piles in the middle of our climb. These man-made structures appeared to have no function, which made them that much more interesting. They certainly were not old property boundary marker due to their random locations. It is discoveries like this that makes wandering through the wilderness with this sport a lot of fun! The summit offered a view of cliffs in one direction, but during the growing season it would probably be difficult to enjoy. This was an enjoyable highpoint with an easy bushwhack to get there, even though the route was steep in a few places.
