CHOCTAW COHP ..... dirt road/xcountry .... 1.3 mile, 30 minutes RT.

This county is named after the Choctaw tribe of Native Americans who occupied this territory as their homeland. Its county seat is Ackerman and as of the 2010 census had a population of 8,547.

The satellite image clearly shows my route, the distances I provide are estimates only.
From my TH on Hopewell-McCool Road I hopped the gate (no signs here) and went west on the soft-dirt road 300 yards to a fork at the northeast corner of a "large-square-patch-of-woods" to the south .... left enters the woods heading in a southwest directions. I went right westerly across a rough logged area (dropping 40 feet to a drainage area) .4 miles to the northwest corner of the "large-square-patch-of-woods", where I picked-up/turned-left on a N-S logging road, which brought me 1/4 mile south directly to the summit (32.12809,-89.31059). This whole area has been logged, open with views ... no doubt the natural summit ground has been disturbed.

For my return I could see a woods track going east from the summit to the "large-square-patch-of-woods" at 150 yards. I followed it to the northeast corner of the "large-square-patch-of-woods" as noted above. This route shortens the hike perhaps 1/4 mile.

Once again today I came out with red muddy boots/pants.

McCOOL LOOKOUT ...... road hike , 1.8 mile, 35 minutes RT.

The gate was open but the dirt road heavily rutted and not driveable. I walked the road southeast, less than a mile, directly to the summit. The cabin of the Lookout Tower has been removed has are the bottom stairs, only the steel structure remains.

From this hike we went Choctaw Lookout Tower and later drove/overnighted at Starkville. We are on our way home from our "Texas Winter Trip 2016", today being our 68th day. We are headed for Nashville where we will play tourist for a few days ..... on the agenda is the Johnny Cash Museum, one of our very favorite entertainers.

"I'M TIRED OF WALKING ALL ALONE ..........
I NEVER THOUGHT I NEEDED HELP BEFORE,
THOUGHT THAT I COULD GET-BY BY MYSELF,
BUT NOW I KNOW I JUST CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE,
AND WITH A HUMBLE HEART ON BENDED KNEES, BEGGING YOU PLEASE, FOR HELP." .......... johnny cash lyrics
