Ascent Trip Report

Hiked up to Surprise Lake and then up to Glacier Lake - the surprise was how swimmable Glacier Lake was! Hike starts in cool shady forest, but once you you hit the steep part you are pretty exposed on the east side of the creek canyon without the cool shade of the more sheltered stretches (this was the hottest part of the year). There weren't many spots to pitch a tent by Surprise Lake without crowding folks, so headed up to Glacier, where there weren't many more - it's a pretty rugged lakeside for the most part. Found a pretty ok flat spot among the rocks. The lake ringed with peaks and trees is very easy on the eyes. Too, the North end of the lake has some nice big rocks and shallow water that make for ideal swimming on a sunny day.
