Ascent Trip Report

Leaving U.S. 101 south of Paso Robles, I headed east on the Pozo Rd through Santa Margarita to Pozo. Here the good dirt road climbs 5.7 miles to the ridge and a locked gate. It is about a 10-minute walk to the Hi Mountain L.O., which is located on the northern edge of the Santa Lucia Wildnerness in Los Padres N.F. Though not regularly staffed, the L.O. has been renovated by several interested groups and it serves as a spotting station for condors.
