Ascent Trip Report

Do not follow our ascent route - brush hell! I had to machete a path through a lot of prickly stuff for quite a while - horrible! Follow the descent route and Rob Woodall's excellent trip report. Also, if you encounter park rangers on the road, tell them you are just driving the road and taking pictures. Do not tell them you are climbing the peak. Apparently a guide and permit are required, obtainable at some kind of office off Hwy 1 near kilometer-post 32. I dutifully listened to the information from the rangers and pretended that we would go there. Then we slept and started hiking before first light to ensure that they wouldn't return for us. No issues with that! The register is surprisingly full of names, most of whom did not use a guide...
