Ascent Trip Report

Took the wrong trail. I followed Edward Earl’s driving notes (no blame to him) but never really found the turnoff I was looking for on the right side of the road, w the gravel on the left. Vegetation might have really moved in during the last 5 years since his TR. Anyway, still had a nice hike in the sun. I parked at the end of the road in a small turnaround.

Was hiking South the whole time when I knew I should have been heading North-Northwest. Pretty much gave up on the objective and hiked on with a nice view of Cle Elum Lake. Trail was a logging road at one time but its broken down enough that you can barely tell and don’t get the feeling you’re walking up a road. But eventually (a little over 2 hours) the trail ended in a large flat gravel area without an easy way to reach the actual summit ridge. I tried to bushwack a bit but it looked like the road really petered out. Had dinner plans so didn’t have time to find a better way to the ridge. Ate lunch, laid down in the gravel with my pack for a pillow and had a nice 30 minute snooze in the sun before heading down trail. Found a tick on the back of my neck when I made it back to my car, luckily he hadn’t found a nice place to dig in yet.
