Ascent of Hunter Mountain on 2008-11-30Date: | Sunday, November 30, 2008 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Hunter Mountain | Location: | USA-New York | Elevation: | 4040 ft / 1231 m |
Ascent Trip ReportNice blood pumping hike up from Spruceton Rd trailhead. Saw no other hikers or hunters. Climbed up fire tower to the top steps before reaching locked access door. Was very cold and windy, very scary thing climbing fire towers! Ate lunch nestled against the door at the summit cabin; was 20F, sleet/freezing rain on way down. No crampons or snowshoes, about 6-7in on higher elevations. Hiked on nice broken in trail all the way to the site of old lean-to where feet remained very dry. After this, trail was a bit rougher to summit with no good prior break-in.
