Ascent Trip Report

I did the two southern contour areas from Sand Hill Road, just 0.2 miles SE of the peaks. There was an ATV track that left the road and got pretty close, although there are many postings and not many places to park. The area is owned by the Big Savage Sports Club, and used for hunting. The southernmost area can be disregarded, but the other larger contour in this area has an erratic that stands 4-5' above the high ground. There is also a hunting blind less than 100 yards from this point.

For the Sampson Rock area, I parked 50 yards before the Private Road, Keep Out signs. I walked up the road, noting two houses on the left and Nature Conservancy land on the right. There is an explicit sign once you are entering the hunting club's land, posted by both Piney Mountain and Big Savage hunting clubs. I made it up to the benchmarks, and quickly jogged back down to the car.

There is a public natural area that gets very close to each of these area from the northwest side:

Finzel Swamp area has trails that would make it very easy to stealth all of these areas, as long as you don't go during hunting season.
