Ascent Trip ReportThis was a pretty easy hike. Our time up is hindered by the fact that just after crossing the Miami River and starting to ascend up the bank on the other side, I realized I forgot my Microspikes in the car. I contemplated not going back for them, but decided because it was later in the day and with the sun setting the temperature would be going down as well, I went back for them. It was a good decision because we both put them on about half way up the mountain.
The first time I hiked Pillsbury a few years ago with Sallie, the cabin of the fire tower was locked closed. Fortunately this time it was open. There was a lock, but it was not secured. There was some satellite equipment in the cabin which I imagine is what they were trying to keep people away from. This fire tower was the scariest one so far because much of the chicken wire surrounding the staircase was either damaged or gone. It was pretty windy, too. Fortunately the wind blows the stairs free of snow / ice after the third or fourth level. The views were okay from the top, but it was pretty cloudy.
