Ascent Trip Reporttrails almost entirely dry, no water whatsoever on the bushwhack. very happy with dry boots! Daniella and i met Bigfoot in Enfield at 6:30am(!). he drove to the trailhead, and served as an excellent guide (only later admitting moments of self-doubt) for our off-trail venture. this turned out to be a perfect hiking group: company but not crowded, jovial but not loud. turns out that this was Bigfoot's first non-solo hike in his past 22! the on-trail section is beautiful and relatively flat; the foliage was at or near peak. way too many tree photos were taken. the brook crossing was do-able. the view from the talus field was perfect. i am not particularly moved by summit vistas with great mountains in the distance; a variety of depth is more appealing. the rocks we were seated on, the tall evergreens on the periphery, bright foliage in the valley and, yes, peaks in the distance offered a more complete scape. per the warnings, the bushwhack was very steep, though it to me it did not seem overly so; the terrain seemed almost familiar. there was a new canister on top, easy to find with a bright red lid. we all signed in and of course i took a bunch of photos of the jar and notebook as well. we found better herd paths heading down from the summit than we did on the way up, but seemed to go a bit off-course as we neared the trail. fine with me, since i just tune out, take photos, and enjoy the scenery until forward progress starts again. once we found the trail, our walk out was calm and uneventful. Bigfoot wanted a beer at the Woodstock Inn, so we headed there for drinks and apps before heading home. I was tuckered out and fell asleep in the back seat of the car for a bit :-)
