Ascent Trip ReportFrom CA-96 about 5 miles north on Weitchpec is a signed turnoff to Bluff Creek Rd. The road has been relocated and the turnoff is now north of Aikens Creek CG, even though the topo map and even the Forest Service map both show the turnoff south of said CG. From that point onward, the road is signed as Forest Road 13. FR13 is in good condition; it is mostly paved, and where it is not paved it is well-graded, hard-packed gravel suitable for any vehicle. After 20 miles, the road comes within a few hundred feet of the basically Martinizable summit near a gravel pit. There are two HP candidates: a thicket on the east rim of the gravel pit, and a morass of brush, stumps, gravel, and sandhills about 200' east of that.
Because I require 1000' gain on any peak with decent prominence, I parked my truck near the turnoff to Onion Lake and Earlized the necessary distance down the road.
