Ascent Trip Report

Fantastic day for a hike! We followed previous reports to the trail head on Taylor Rd. My partner and I ascended on the white blazed Sweet Clover Trail. The ascent was fairly quick, not counting the delays for poor trail markers. One blunder sent us on top of a ground nest of wasps that necessitated a twenty foot scramble up a rock face. At the top of the ridge line, we turned south on the yellow blazed Jessup Trail. We took the short side trail to the Monoliths as well as all the requisite view points along the mountain. After we were done up top, we took the Dark Hollow Trail down. The Sweet Clover and Dark Hollow Trails are both pretty steep. In wet conditions, the Dark Hollow would be more treacherous. Plenty of views along the way made this one of the most pleasant hikes we've done in a long time. We were lucky, with a nice breeze, pleasant temperatures and clear views from every vantage point. We easily saw the Catskills and multiple fantastic views of the Hudson River.
