Ascent Trip Report

TRIP REPORT: Sierra Club – HPS Hike lead by Peter and Ignacia Doggett. Gathered at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway parking lot at 7:30 AM on Saturday, 6/14/14. Took the 8:00 AM aerial tram up to the Mountain Station. After an orientation and introductions by Peter and Ignacia with 23 hiking participants, we departed on the hike at 8:30 AM. We hiked to Tamarac Meadow then on to Cornell Peak (9,750’). We had a 3rd Class climb to the peak (just below the summit) and signed the register in two separate groups. We then hiked to San Jacinto Peak (10,834’) where we gathered for lunch until 1:00 PM. We then hiked west to Folly Peak (10,480’), signed the register, and quickly departed for Drury Peak (10,160’) where we signed the register. We then hiked to Marion Mountain (10,362’). In two groups we made a 3rd Class climb up the chute to the peak where we signed the register. We then hiked to Jean Peak (10,670’) looping back to the start of the trip. From there we descended the north face down into Tamarac Meadow where we picked up water bottles that had been cached. We then hiked back to the Mountain Station for the Aerial Tramway, arriving at 9:20 PM. We took the 9:30 PM tram down the hill to the parking lot. The weather was beautiful throughout the day and no hotter than mid-80’s with a cool breeze day for most of the day.
