Ascent Trip ReportJosh & I thought to try to reach the peak of Mt Garfield on the northern end of the Franconia Ridge via the Garfield trail. We arrived later than I would have liked at the parking area however the day, although cold, appeared to be good for an early winter hike. This was my first hike with a new knee brace. About two hours, and 3 water crossing in we started to see people coming down describing icy conditions. Josh did not have microspikes. My knee was bothering me so about 1/2 way up we turned back. 1. Once there is any potential for snow/ice, everyone has microspikes. Ski poles or hiking poles, especially for the knee brace wearer, would help a lot.
