Ascent Trip Report

We had a wrong turn (my fault) and a false start on the wrong road prior to starting our attempt, and Dan's low-clearance car was not ideal for the gravel roads in the area. We finally got to the right trailhead and biked along for about 3 miles or so on the logging roads, but Zelda the dog had trouble keeping up with our cycling progress. Also, a couple of us had reasons to be back home at a reasonable hour this evening. Given our late start and all these other factors, we decided to bail on our Index attempt before throwing any more effort into it.

By all accounts Index is a serious effort that requires a very long day for most parties, and already too much had gone wrong for us to have any reasonable expectation of success. It's probably not a good peak for a dog, either. So as a plan B we instead hiked up nearby Mount Persis, using it's popular (but steep and brushy) hiking trail.
