Ascent Trip Report

PCT to Commonwealth basin. Some lingering snow at the trailhead, and a lot of snow across the scree slope. Once into Commonwealth basin after the trail junction, there was quite a bit of snow. Route finding was a little tricky since I'd not done the trail before and because of various stream crossings.

Ascended moderately steep ridge to gain a flat spot (this is where the lake is) and then angled right up the snow towards the summit. Some mixed scramble over mostly steep snow and some rock to summit. Wonderful views.

Descended back down steep snow with ice axe. Plunge steps caused large train of snow to accrete into a wet slide that went most of the way down the slope.
