Ascent of Hard Knott on 2014-03-31

Ascent Type:Successful Summit Attained
Peak:Hard Knott
    Elevation:548 m / 1801 ft

Ascent Trip Report

An Eskdale Medley of three Wainwrights. Parked at the top of Hardknott Pass, very grateful that there was still parking available as the journey over took longer than expected, I imagine this would be impossible at the weekend. First ascent was Hard Knott itself but not before a direct assault on Border End followed by easy scrambles over the intervening outcrops. A bit hazy but at least no rain all day and cloud well above all summits. Great views of the Scafell group and thence clockwise Bowfell, Crinkle Crags and further around the Coniston Fells. A quick return to the starting point was followed by peakbagging south of the road: Harter Fell and Green Crag. Not as boggy as expected and a great sense of solitude (for The Lakes) crossing the intervening trackless valleys. Took a slight eastern detour on return along forestry roads and then a permissive bridleway through regenerating natural broad-leaf woodland. A fine day out!
