Ascent Trip ReportIt was a disappointment for my son, Marshall, and I to have driven so far only to discover that the entrance road to the Butler County High Point was heavily posted. It was also frustrating because the actual summit could be seen less than .25 miles away. I used a phone number obtained from Bill Jacobs' 2001 report. The phone number still rang, but there was no answer. We enjoyed watching the huge blades spin on the many towers located here, since this area is in the middle of a vast wind farm. After, at least, 15 minutes trying to decide what to do, we were encouraged that not a single vehicle had passed by the entire time we were there, so we raced to the summit, grabbed a quick summit photo and hurried back to the safety of the public road. I hope you have the same luck if you try to bag this high point someday. A point of interest: The tiny town of Beaumont, Kansas to the north has a great deal of interesting historical significance and is worth a visit. You have to pass through it anyway if coming from the north.
