Ascent Trip Report

An snow covered/packed trail and bushwack in open woods with knee-high snow cover ..... 4 km, 1 3/4 hour RT.

The main office and parking/access for the Arboretum Morgan, is at 150 Rue des Pins (very north end).

From the Pierrefond Mall, north side of Autoroute 40, exit 49 (Chemin Sainte-Marie), we drove west on Chemin Sainte-Marie (as it parallels #40 on the north side of the highway and passes by the McGill Agronomy Research Center) for 4.2km to a right turn on Rue des Pins, .8km north we arrived at the main office, paid the 4$ seniors entry fee (gave us a trail map) and continued 250M to the north-end parking lot, just to the west (left) is the visitors chalet. This was my TH.
Both parking lots were 80% full on this beautiful sunny cool day.

I easily walked west on the wide snow-covered/packed orange trail for 500M to a height of land ("Point X") on the resemblance of a northwest/southeast ridge line (my GPS here at "Point X" read 45.43130,73.94850). The woods here are very open and I couldn't see any obvious high ground, so I stomped my way around in knee high snow (northwest and southeast) looking for my High Point .... nothing really obvious. Stomping around in knee-high deep snow was somewhat taxing.
I finally settled on 2 Candidate High Points, adding orange tape to both spots. I can not measure for elevation with any accuracy, I rely on my eye level, so my candidates need to be challenged.
NORTH CANDIDATE .... about 200M northwest of "Point X" at GPS 45.43230,73.94993.
SOUTH CANDIDATE .... about 80 meters southeast of "Point X" at GPS 45.43091,73.94833.

After locating my High Points I continued clockwise on the orange trail for 2.5km to complete the full 4km orange trail loop. I saw a lot of people on the trails with their dogs on this superb day, but none off trail (except for a dog) like the author.

I must come back after the snows are gone to double-check my chosen HPs.

ADDENDUM DATED 2014-04-17
I came back today to full-fill my promise of my first visit. I walked the same loop and bushwacked to the 2 High Point Candidate HP in snow free woods, a lot easier. My chosen candidates remain unchanged, and if I had to chose "the" HP it would be the SOUTH CANDIDATE.
Once again a lot of people out with their dogs.
