Ascent Trip Report

Checked the weather report, the night before and morning of climb. Looked to be clear, in the AM, then clouds moving in afternoon. Arrived at the Trail head and headed up. Temp around 32F. About 18" to 24" of snow, but the trail was well packed. Used Snow Shoes, for the trip up. Deep blue skies, most of the climb, but just as I hit the summit, the clouds moved in. Climbed the 60' Fire Tower, for fantastic views. The cab and stairs are in good shape, with some windows missing. Very light wind. Distant High Peaks were now a light gray color. Mt. Colden was the easiest to see, because of its dark colored cliffs, on its summit. Still a great 360 degree view. Removed Snow Shoes for the trip down. Met 3 young hikers about 2/3 of the way down. One guy and 2 girls. They did not carry any equipment; No pack, no Snow Shoes, no poles and NO Water. I offered them a spare water bottle, but they refused. Overall, a nice easy hike. Thanks to the ESF crew for maintaining the tower and trail.
