Ascent Trip Report

We were granted a slight weather window during the storms that have been battering the British Isles lately. It was a short drive from Fossa to Cronin's Yard.
On the walk up the valley we were hit by several squalls of hail.
We missed the river crossing and were rewarded by wet boots crossing back to get to the main track up through Hags Glen.

The Devils Ladder was not as bad as we expected, thanks to the soft snow.
It was a quick ascent up the ladder, and then up to the summit following a fain track in the snow and the icy cairns.

We had a short break at the top for photos and then we dropped back to the saddle for lunch.
Another group had come up via Cnoc na Tionne and we decided to follow their route, instead of back tracking down the ladder. It was a slow plod up to Cnoc Na Tionne, and the wind picked up severely although only for a couple of minutes.

We dropped over the edge to begin the descent into Hags Glen and it was very slow down climbing the steep snow face. Occasional patches of hard snow were no great problem as we just went slowly and safely. The walk out was fast and we only stopped for photos and to watch a Shepard controlling his dogs high up the on the valley walls.

The Lamb shank for dinner in Killarney that night was well deserved!
