Ascent Trip Report

Monroe # 38

Hiking today with friends Michael & Brian .... We started our hike up Ammanoosuc @ 8:30 in 4 degree weather & it never got any warmer..We used our snowshoes to the hut ..Trail was nicely broken out.....When we got to the dungeon we suited up for the summit & put on our crampons for the summit....Had a hard time finding the trail & cairns at times as summit was socked it the clouds but Brian Platt did a great job locating them..25 MPH winds & single # temps at the top so we didn't stay long met 2 other hikers going up too....Stopped back at the dungeon to rest & put our snowshoes for way down...On way down I fell a couple times once off the trail....Loose granular snow was tough with snowshoes coming down as we slide alot on way down
When we got to the bottom we looked back & up & Washington & Monroe were in the clear ...Crystal clear blue skies ....Go figure LOL

My 1st winter summit in winter above treeline.....What a rush
