Ascent Trip Report

We drove 9.4 miles in on a dirt road through Collins Valley to Sheep Canyon Campground. The road was pretty good except that a decent high clearance 4x is required after the 3rd stream crossing for about 1/2 of a mile. The steam did not have much water in it this year, but I've heard stories of 2' high water occasionally in the stream. The terrain is some of the most rugged that I've ever hiked in. The route down Sheep Canyon requires careful route finding to get around the numerous waterfalls, cliffs and debris. The GPS said that our route was 7.6 miles and 4,250' of elevation gain.
