Ascent Trip Report

I parked in the obvious car park on the road between Boppelsen and Regensburg, the latter famous for its mediaeval castle, and joined several other walkers on the Planetenweg (a representation of the solar system where to-scale balls of metal (rock for the sun) are spaced at correct distances to let you understand the vastness of the thing. Information boards beside each one tell something about each planet. This, and the slippery road surface (compacted snow) held my attention all the way to the famous restaurant near the summit of Lägern, complete with viewing platform and radar dome nearby. From there I left the crowds behind and followed the path which runs just below the narrowish limestone ridge, until the point where I could scramble up to the little summit, with the usual small cubic trig point a meter or so below it to the east. Parts of the ridge were fortified in the middle ages, and an information board gives some details, which you can see on Very nice walk in the winter sunshine.
