Ascent Trip ReportMy second visit to this one via the Dennis Poulin route. On 12/20/2011 I went up with Eric Noel but had to stop about 500 vertical short of the summit due to a leg injury. So, I was able to come back with Arizonans Rick Hartman and Mark Nichols and once again we utilized the excellent Dennis Poulin route (see his trip report). Having come from snowy Utah it was a delight to be climbing in 70 degree temps. Wow. 70 degrees. Whats not to love about Arizona in the winter. Anywya, we had a great day on this one but can you believe my camera was left in my truck, parked near a gas station off the Interstate due to the fact that I rode up in Rick's new 4 runner. Neither Rick nor Mark carry cameras nor care about them, they use their phones. I guess I'm not there yet with trusting my phone. We made excellent time up to the summit and I grabbed a nearby geocache while the two of them explored around the summit area. We all signed into the summit register which dated from 1989. Thanks to both Rick and Mark who took the time to repeat this one with me. We got back to our vehicles before dark and I headed back to Gilbert where we were spending the Christmas holiday with my son and his family.
One post note, sure glad we don't have cactus in Utah, that is just painful stuff at times.
Including the ups and downs, I figure we had about 2600' of elevation gain in about 6 miles roundtrip. It really depends on where you park your vehicle.
