Ascent Trip Report

Rained hard the night before. Light rain as we hiked up the trail. Some snow on the first slabby ramp but we got up that OK. The location of the old ladder was in thick fog and it snowed most of the time we were up there. We tried several different routes to surmount the cliffs but were turned back by wet rock that was icy or snow covered. Greg K. led up a rib and I followed, but that led to a false summit with a huge cleft between us and the main summit block--no dice. We had to use the rope as a handline a few times to safely descend while messing about. Our last try was up by the old ladder bolts, but it was just too steep for us given ice and snow. The fog and snow falling was not good either. So we reluctantly turned back. We will come back in dry conditions.
