Ascent Trip Report

Met my climbing partner, Kurt, at 8:15 AM and arrived at the trail head at 9:44 AM. We started up at 9:55. There was a lot of snow, and we decided to bring our snow shows, but climb in our boots and YaxTrax until we needed to change. There was 1 other hiker on the trail, that day. Very easy climb, except for the last 100' which was very steep. Kurt said it was MUCH easier in the winter, than his last summit in the summer/fall. Only issue I had was with my camera. Batteries were weak, so I used it sparingly. I won't let that happen again. Reached the summit at 1:08 PM. Snow on top was probably 6' deep, but we didn't need our snow shoes, the trail was well packed. Took a side trip to the NW side of summit for some great views, then headed to the fire tower. What a super view. Good view of Gore Mt (I think). Headed down at 1:55. I fell in a post hole, and didn't notice that I lost my YaxTrax until about 15 minutes later, when I could have used it for stopping traction. We decided to leave it for the summer. We signed out at the register at 3:55 PM. About 3 hours up and 2 down.
