Ascent Trip Report

Drove to about half mile from TH on FR30. Hiked the PCT on firm snow to Sawtooth Mountain Trail which doesn't go to the top. Left the trail NW of the peak & up through woods on steepish hard snow, could have used crampons but OK without. On the north side of the top we went east below steep rock to a minor saddle through brush & small trees. Route from here didn't look good (thin snow cover on rock)so traversed steep & exposed snow on the south side to the ridge crest west of the summit.
From this saddle is a class 3 scramble on good rock though exposed near the top. I was the only one willing to try it & wasn't wanting to downclimb the upper section, the others showed me a different way down on the south side. Snow cover complicated the climb & should be easier in dry conditions.
