Ascent Trip Report

We intended to climb the Petzoldt Ridge, but the wx threatened, so we opted for this route. The cracks had some ice and snow in them, but not too bad, and we were able to get good pro. My partner, Paul, and I were the last party up. We looked down to see all other parties heading back down due to threatening wx, which kinda made us laugh nervously. Our buddies Brad and Roshan were above us, along with about 8 other climbers on our side of the mtn. We all summited, and quickly headed back down to the rap station, where a rope was tied off and climbers rapped off two at a time. I was the last to rap down (made sure I switched the rope over from the tie-off to a loop) after watching Roshan disappear into whiteout on rap 100 feet below me. But I could still hear the dozen or so climbers clanking around 200 feet below me, so I was not too lonely. I think I was the highest person in Wyoming at that moment. The free rap in whiteout was neat.

Later that day while descending a steep decline, on the way down from the camp area, a sudden wind gust blew me 15 feet backward up the mtn on my tip toes. It pretty much lifted me up off the ground. That was also neat.
